Suspected Ebola Infection in Bengaluru Sparks Panic, Woman Under Observation

Bengaluru: The health department’s concern suddenly increased about the Ebola virus in Bengaluru when a woman who returned from Uganda was sent into isolation after showing infection-like symptoms. The woman was kept under observation in a government hospital in Bengaluru and her samples were sent for testing. As soon as information about the case came to light, both the central and state governments came into alert mode. Although later the initial report said that the woman’s test was negative, the administration has refused to take any kind of risk.

Did suspicion of the woman deepen after coming from Africa?

The woman had reached Bengaluru from Uganda just a few days ago. Recently new cases of Ebola have been found in Uganda. For this reason, special attention was kept on her during the screening at the airport. When fatigue and muscle pain came to light during thermal scanning and questioning, the officials did not take the risk. She was immediately separated from the other passengers and shifted to a special ward.

Has any confirmed case of Ebola been found in India?

The Health Ministry has clearly said: So far there is not a single positive case of Ebola in India. This whole matter was just a part of precaution. The Center has asked all the states to remain alert. Instructions have been given to screen every passenger coming from African countries and check travel history. The team of doctors has been increased at the airport.

How dangerous is Ebola virus?

Ebola is counted among the most dangerous viruses. It spreads through direct contact with the blood, sweat, saliva or vomit of an infected person. In the beginning there is high fever, weakness, headache and body ache. When the condition worsens, vomiting, diarrhea and internal bleeding start. Its mortality rate is considered to be more than 50%. That is why not a single suspicious case is taken lightly.

How is the situation in African countries right now?

New cases of Ebola have been reported in many African countries including Uganda. WHO is continuously monitoring the situation. Many countries have tightened screening for flights coming from Africa. India is also in the same list. Preparations for health desk, quick isolation unit and contact tracing have already been made.

Can Ebola spread an epidemic like corona?

Experts say that both the viruses are completely different. Ebola does not spread through air like corona. For this, it is necessary to come in direct contact with the body fluid of the infected person. That means the speed of its spread is slow.
