Mansa. The murder of a 90-year-old woman in the village of Jodkiyan—located in the Sardulgarh subdivision of Mansa district—has shaken the entire region. The body of the woman, who had been missing for four days, was recovered from a trunk kept inside a house within the same village. The body was found in a severely decomposed state. Following the revelation of the incident, widespread outrage swept through the village; residents gathered outside the Jodkiyan police station to demand strict action from the police administration.
The deceased has been identified as Sukhdev Kaur, wife of Bhajan Singh. According to the family, Sukhdev Kaur had gone to pay her respects at the local Gurdwara Sahib in the morning, as was her daily routine, but she failed to return home. After waiting for a considerable period, her family and fellow villagers initiated a search for her. Upon reviewing footage from nearby surveillance cameras, the woman was seen heading in the direction of her home, yet she never actually reached it. Subsequently, the matter was reported to the police. Acting on suspicion, the police conducted searches of several houses within the village. During these searches, Sukhdev Kaur’s body was discovered inside a trunk located in one of the houses. The condition of the body had deteriorated significantly.
Gold Jewelry Missing from Ears and Hands
Preliminary investigations revealed that the gold jewelry the woman was wearing on her ears and hands was missing. The police suspect that the murder was committed with the motive of robbing her jewelry. A tense atmosphere prevailed in the village following the incident. Villagers alleged that the crime was perpetrated by youths addicted to drugs. The police have arrested one youth in connection with the case, while the potential involvement of other individuals is also being investigated.
Drug Addiction Cited as the Motive
Balvir Singh, the Station House Officer (SHO) of Jodkiyan police station, stated that the police have registered a case against Jagseer Singh and other unidentified individuals in connection with the incident. A forensic team has also collected samples from the crime scene. Further action will be taken once the post-mortem report is received. On Sunday, a large number of villagers gathered outside the Jodkiyan police station to protest against the incident. During this time, Sarpanch Jagsir Singh, Subedar Gurmel Singh, Tarsem Singh, Jaswinder Singh, and others demanded a fair investigation from the police administration and called for strict punishment for the culprits.
The villagers stated that the atmosphere in the villages is deteriorating due to drug abuse, and law-abiding families are falling victim to it. They urged the administration to launch a rigorous campaign against drugs. Additionally, a decision was taken to form an anti-drug committee within the village to prevent such incidents from occurring in the future.
