Tehran: The US military has carried out airstrikes on Iran for the tenth consecutive night. Late on Monday, it said the latest strikes were aimed at reopening the Strait of Hormuz. The renewed attacks follow the death of a third US soldier and Iran’s reported strikes targeting key US allies, including Kuwait, Jordan, and Bahrain, home to the US Navy’s Fifth Fleet.
What did US Central Command say?
The US Central Command stated on social media that the latest attacks are aimed at further degrading Iran’s military capabilities used to attack commercial ships in the Strait of Hormuz. Amid rising tensions between the US and Iran, a ray of hope has emerged on the diplomatic front. Iran’s Interior Minister has visited Pakistan for talks. Pakistan is a key mediator in this conflict.
An interim agreement between the US and Iran to end the war last month has collapsed. The resumption of conflict has virtually halted shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, a vital route for global energy supplies. As the conflict intensifies, both sides have targeted infrastructure vital to civilian use.
What about oil rates?
Oil prices have risen in recent weeks as tensions escalate, with the conflict affecting the entire world. A new potential threat to global energy markets emerged on Monday when Iran-backed Houthi rebels in Yemen announced plans to block Saudi Arabia’s shipping routes in the Red Sea, an alternative route for oil exports.
The US Central Command said the airstrikes targeted Iran’s military command center, air defense and coastal surveillance centers, maritime capabilities, missile and drone launch sites, and communication networks. Last week, the US attacked bridges and a tower at an Iranian port.
What did Iran say?
Iran’s state news agency reported that one person was killed in the US strikes near the northwestern city of Tabriz, 520 km from Tehran. Bandar Imam Khomeini in Khuzestan province, Sirik and Jask in Hormozgan province, Konarak in Sistan and Baluchistan province, and Chabahar Port were targeted.
