New Delhi: The government has issued an important update for consumers regarding the subsidy on domestic LPG cylinders. To avail LPG subsidy from October 1, 2026, it will be necessary to complete Aadhaar biometric authentication. The government says that the purpose of this process is to extend the benefits of subsidy to genuine and eligible consumers and to stop fake or duplicate connections.
Consumers who have already completed Aadhaar biometric verification or e-KYC will not need to undergo the process again.
What is going to change regarding LPG subsidy from October 1?
According to the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, as of September 19, Aadhaar biometric authentication of 27.43 crore active domestic LPG consumers in the country, i.e. about 89.9 percent of the customers, had been completed. The government had earlier set the deadline for this as June 30, which was later extended to September 14.
Now customers who have not yet done their Aadhaar biometric verification will have to complete this process to continue availing the subsidy.
What will happen if biometric verification is not done?
LPG connection or cylinder supply will not be stopped for customers who do not undergo Aadhaar biometric authentication. However, such consumers will not get the benefit of subsidy and may have to buy domestic cylinders at market price.
According to the ministry, after completing the verification, eligible consumers will be able to book subsidised cylinders.
Where will LPG customers have to undergo biometric verification?
Consumers can get Aadhaar biometric authentication done by visiting the showroom of their nearest LPG distributor. Apart from this, this process can also be completed through the mobile app of the delivery employee at the time of delivery of the cylinder.
Customers can also complete e-KYC or related verification processes sitting at home through the mobile app of oil companies.
How to complete LPG e-KYC sitting at home?
Different oil companies have provided digital mediums for LPG customers. Consumers can complete the e-KYC process through the official app of their gas company.

How much subsidy is being given on LPG cylinder in September?
It has been reported that in September 2026, an indirect subsidy of about Rs 210 will be available on 14.2 kg domestic LPG cylinder. Therefore, it has become important for consumers who avail subsidy benefits to complete Aadhaar biometric authentication.
Will the cylinder be available even without Aadhaar verification?
The supply of LPG cylinders will not be completely stopped if Aadhaar biometric authentication is not done. However, such customers will not get subsidy and will have to pay the price of the cylinder as per the market rate.
Such consumers can register and complete the necessary processes through the digital portal of the concerned oil company, mobile app, WhatsApp chatbot or IVRS. Five or 10 kg cylinders may also be available depending on local availability.
