Muzaffarnagar: On Monday, a Maharshi Valmiki Jayanti event in Muzaffarnagar turned into a political arena when a scuffle over a microphone occurred between Minister of State Kapil Dev Agarwal and SP leader Rakesh Sharma. A video of the incident is circulating on social media. In the footage, the Minister is seen addressing the gathering when the SP leader approaches and attempts to forcibly take the microphone from his hand. The Minister refuses to let go, leading to a heated confrontation.
Incident Occurs During a Procession
The incident reportedly took place on Monday afternoon, between 3:00 PM and 4:00 PM. As a procession was beginning, Minister Kapil Dev Agarwal was addressing the crowd at the Valmiki Jayanti event. During this time, some members of the Valmiki community raised a grievance. Suddenly, SP leader Rakesh Sharma arrived at the scene. In the viral video, he is seen attempting to forcibly snatch the microphone from the minister’s hand. The minister resists, resulting in a tug-of-war. Kapil Dev Agarwal is seen expressing his displeasure at the SP leader’s actions. Others present—including former BJP MLA from Purkaji, Pramod Untwal—are also heard intervening and questioning Rakesh Sharma’s behaviour.
Microphone Remains with the Minister; Accusations of Attempting to Disrupt the Atmosphere
One individual is heard saying, “Sharma ji, this behaviour of yours is not right. Do not try to disrupt the atmosphere.” Throughout this entire episode, the microphone remains in the minister’s hand, and this part of the event has become a subject of political discussion. Now, political questions are being raised regarding this incident: was Rakesh Sharma attempting to bring the grievances of the Valmiki community to light, or was he merely seeking an opportunity to establish his own political presence amidst those grievances?
