Muzaffarnagar: Uneven Drains in Sundar Nagar Cause Waterlogging, Residents Suffer

Muzaffarnagar: Residents of Sundar Nagar colony, located near Rampur Tiraha, are expressing significant dissatisfaction regarding the construction of roads and drains in their area. The project was initiated following a proposal championed by Cabinet Minister Anil Kumar for this colony, which falls under the Purkaji assembly constituency. While residents initially welcomed the initiative and expressed gratitude to the minister, serious concerns are now being raised regarding alleged flaws in the construction work. Locals allege that due to the negligence of the contractors, the development project has exacerbated the problem of waterlogging instead of providing any benefit.

Improper Slope of Drains Hinders Water Drainage

According to local residents, the drains are not being constructed with the required slope. They have been built at varying heights—some sections are too high, while others are too low—which obstructs the flow of water. Residents claim that in some places, there is a height difference of up to 1.5 feet between sections of the drains. Although the external drain, into which the colony’s water is intended to flow, is approximately four feet deep, the incorrect slope of the internal drains has resulted in water pooling outside several homes.

Concerns Over Disparity in Levels Between Houses and the Road

Residents fear that if the road construction is completed under these current conditions, some houses will end up level with the road, while others will sit below it. This could further aggravate the issue of rainwater and domestic wastewater accumulating outside their homes. The residents emphasise that it is essential to correct the slope of the drains and the elevation of the road before the construction work is finalised.
