The 209 Commando Battalion for Resolute Action (CoBRA) has turned into a powerful unit against Maoists in Jharkhand during a year of steady counter-insurgency work. Key leaders eliminated and arrests made
Among those killed were two Central Committee Members — the highest level of Naxal leadership — plus two from the Bihar-Jharkhand Special Area Committee (BJSAC), four Zonal Committee Members (ZCMs), two Sub-Zonal Committee Members (SZCMs), and three Area Committee Members (ACMs). These were not ordinary fighters but planners, recruiters, and organisers whose loss has created a gap in the group’s chain of command. Alongside these operations, the unit also caught three Maoists alive — one SZCM, one ACM, and a cadre. These arrests have given vital information, weakening the remaining groups further and creating fear among their ranks.
Huge cache of arms and explosives seized
The quantity of weapons and explosives recovered shows how big these actions were. CoBRA troops captured 32 advanced automatic guns, 345 kilograms of explosives, 88 detonators, and over 2,500 rounds of live bullets. They also seized large amounts of other war-like materials, revealing how militarised the Naxal setup had become. Beyond direct fighting, the force took down 18 Naxal hideouts and demolished 39 bunkers. These actions have stopped the insurgents from regrouping, planning attacks, and hiding weapons, cutting off their supply and storage system.
