Two people, including an eight-year-old child, lost their lives in separate road accidents in Jharkhand’s Dumka and Chaibasa on Sunday, police reported. The child was hit by a bus on the Chaibasa-Jagannathpur Road near Singhpokharia Railway Station in West Singhbhum district in the morning.
Details of the First Accident
Chandra Shekhar, officer-in-charge of Chaibasa Muffassil police station, said angry locals blocked the road for a while, demanding compensation for the child. The boy was identified as Sukhlal Sirka (8) from Tangar under Kumardungi police station area. The police have taken the bus into custody, but the driver managed to escape. The road blockade ended after the bus owner paid ₹1 lakh to the child’s family as compensation, the officer added.
Second Accident in Dumka
In Dumka, a 55-year-old man named Naresh Marandi died after being run over by a truck on the Sahibganj-Dumka Road. His 32-year-old son was also hurt and is receiving treatment at a nursing home in Masalia. Rajesh Ranjan, officer-in-charge of Masalia police station, said the body was sent to Dumka Sadar Hospital for post-mortem. The police have seized the truck and arrested the driver.
