A female elephant that was stolen from Jharkhand’s Palamu district and sold for Rs 27 lakh has been found in Bihar’s Chapra district, police confirmed on Tuesday. Narendra Kumar Shukla, a resident of Mirzapur in Uttar Pradesh, had filed a complaint after his elephant named Jayamati was stolen from the Chukur area of Palamu on September 12. Shukla had earlier bought the elephant from Ranchi for Rs 40 lakh.

Elephant Traced After Tip-Off

According to Medininagar SDPO Manibhushan Prasad, the theft case was registered at the Sadar police station, and an investigation started soon after. On Monday, the police received secret information that the missing elephant was kept in Pahadpur, Chapra, in Bihar. Jharkhand Police then contacted Bihar Police and sought their support in tracing the animal.

Elephant Rescued, Search For Culprits Continues

Following the joint action, the elephant was successfully rescued from Chapra. However, no arrests have been made so far in connection with the theft. Police said that efforts are on to identify and catch those behind the incident.
