Announcements for the 2025 Nobel Prize began on Monday. Three individuals have been announced for their contributions to the fields of physiology and medicine, benefiting humanity. According to the Nobel Authority, this year’s Nobel Prize will be awarded to Mary E. Brunko, Fred Ramsdell, and Shimol Sakagujji. The authority stated that the three will be awarded the prize for their discoveries related to immune tolerance.

This year’s Nobel Prize in Medicine was announced on Monday to Mary E. Brunko, Fred Ramsdell and Shimon Sakaguchi for their discoveries related to peripheral immune tolerance. Peripheral immune tolerance is a mechanism that helps prevent the body’s immune system from going out of control and attacking its own tissues instead of foreign pathogens. This is the first announcement of the Nobel Prizes for the year 2025 and the names were announced by a committee at the Karolinska Institute in Stockholm.

The Peace Prize will be announced on Friday

Last year’s prize was awarded jointly to Americans Victor Ambrose and Gary Ruvkun for their discovery of microRNA (ribonucleic acid). MicroRNAs are tiny particles of genetic material that act as on-and-off switches inside cells, helping to control what cells do and when.

The winners of the Nobel Prizes in Physics will be announced on Tuesday, Chemistry on Wednesday, and Literature on Thursday. The Nobel Peace Prize will be announced on Friday, and the Nobel Memorial Prize in Economics on October 13th. Trump has also been nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize. It remains to be seen whether he will win the award this time.

What is Nobel Prize?

This year’s Nobel Prize ceremony will be held on December 10, 2025, the anniversary of the death of Alfred Nobel, the founder of the awards. Nobel, a wealthy Swedish industrialist and inventor of dynamite, died on this day in 1896. In his will of 1895, Nobel left a large portion of his estate to fund the annual awards. The first Nobel Prizes were awarded in 1901 for outstanding achievements in physics, chemistry, medicine, literature, and peace. Subsequently, in 1968, Sweden’s central bank, Sveriges Riksbank, established the Prize in Economic Sciences in Memory of Alfred Nobel and expanded its categories to six.
