Delhi Government Tightens Action Against Food Adulteration During Festive Season

The government has taken a strict stand against food adulteration in Delhi. On Monday (October 6), Delhi Health Minister Dr. Pankaj Kumar Singh held an important meeting with the officials of the Food Safety Department of the Delhi Government to discuss food safety during the festive season. Festivals often see cases of adulteration in food items like paneer, khoya, and sweets. Considering this, the minister directed the Food Safety Department to conduct an intensive inspection campaign across the city. The aim is to ensure that all food items sold during the festive season—such as paneer, khoya, sweets, and spices—meet the required safety and hygiene standards. The Health Department and Food Safety teams are actively conducting raids against those involved in food adulteration.

Dr. Pankaj Kumar Singh said that during the ongoing inspection drive in Delhi, officials have collected samples of 20 different food items. These include samples of paneer, khoya, sweets, and spices collected from various areas and markets across the city for testing. In addition, 139 samples of raw meat (non-vegetarian products) have also been collected for examination. The Food Safety Department assured that strict monitoring and testing are being carried out for all food items to ensure the complete safety of the people of Delhi during the festivals.

The Health Minister has also ordered a thorough inspection of bottled drinking water from all brands, as many adulterated brands are active in the market. He emphasized that every brand must follow food safety standards and quality protocols. The minister further instructed officials to carefully inspect branded sweet shop chains operating under the same name and ensure that all outlets maintain uniform quality and comply with food safety regulations.

Officials from the Food Safety Department informed the Health Minister that inspection and raid campaigns are being conducted strictly at the ground level across Delhi with full support from the Delhi Police. They mentioned that in joint inspections and enforcement actions, police teams are taking quick action wherever violations are found.

Health Minister Dr. Pankaj Kumar Singh said that under the leadership of Chief Minister Mrs. Rekha Gupta, the BJP government is committed to ensuring that every citizen of the capital consumes clean, safe, and high-quality food during the festivals. He made it clear that any kind of food adulteration or negligence by officials will not be tolerated under any circumstances.
