The funeral of CRPF head constable Mahendra Laskar, who lost his life in an IED explosion in Jharkhand, was held at his home village in Assam’s Nagaon district on Sunday. Earlier in the day, CRPF officials handed over Laskar’s body to his family in Kuwariati village under the Kampur area.

As his mortal remains reached the village, sorrow filled the air. People gathered in large numbers to offer their final tributes to the brave soldier.
The cremation ceremony was attended by MLAs Jitu Goswami and Sashi Kanta Das, Nagaon Deputy Commissioner Devashish Sharma, SSP Swapnaneel Deka, and CRPF Inspector General Virendra Kumar, among others.

Chief Minister Offers Condolences

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma expressed his condolences in a post on X, saying, “My deepest sympathies to the family of braveheart HC/GD Mahendra Laskar of CRPF from Nagaon, who made the ultimate sacrifice while on duty in Jharkhand. The nation will forever be grateful for his courage and dedication.”

Laskar, along with two others, was injured in twin IED blasts in the Saranda forest area of West Singhbhum district in Jharkhand on Friday. He succumbed to his injuries during treatment at a hospital in Rourkela, Odisha, on Saturday.
Officials stated that the explosive devices were believed to have been planted by members of the banned CPI (Maoist) group to attack security personnel.
