CBI Targets 5 IPS Officers in DIG Bhullar Case; Process Begins to Seize 'Benami' Properties

National News: In the case of suspended DIG of Ropar Range, Harcharan Singh Bhullar, the CBI Chandigarh may also interrogate five other IPS officers posted in the Ropar Range. According to official sources, these five IPS officers worked under Bhullar. They may be questioned regarding Bhullar’s bribery case and his middleman, Krishnu. The CBI investigation has revealed that Bhullar used to issue certain instructions to these officers during service, which are now under scrutiny.

ED Seeks Property Documents from CBI

In this bribery case, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) has asked the CBI for documents related to Bhullar’s properties. By Tuesday, the CBI will provide the ED with copies of all documents and details of the items seized during the raids. The ED is likely to file a money laundering case soon and begin action under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA).

Benami Properties to Be Attached

The Punjab Government has started its own inquiry into 71 immovable properties of Bhullar that surfaced during the CBI raids, some of which are benami (illegally held in others’ names).
The Revenue Department will obtain copies of documents from the CBI officers and, after verification, begin the process of attaching these properties.

US Call Reveals Land Deal Pressure

A video surfaced on Sunday from scrap dealer Akash Batta, who is linked to the bribery case.
He claimed that after the CBI action, he received a call from a person in the United States.
According to Batta, the caller said he had a brother living in Punjab while he lived in the US with his family.
Bhullar allegedly created a dispute between the two brothers and then bought their land at a throwaway price under pressure.
