New Delhi: At a stage in life when the elderly most need trust, respect, and security, the Delhi Police once again showcased the compassionate bond shared between the ‘Khaki’ (police force) and society. On the occasion of the International Day of Older Persons, the Outer District Police organized the ‘Aashirwad’ (Blessings) program at the Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) office complex in Pushpanjali Enclave, Pitampura. Around 100 senior citizens participated in the event, engaging in direct dialogue with police officers to share their problems, suggestions, and experiences. The event was presided over by DCP Vikram Singh and Additional DCP Manoj Kumar, with Assistant Commissioners of Police (ACPs), Station House Officers (SHOs), and other police personnel in attendance. The program aimed to promote the safety, dignity, health, and well-being of senior citizens.

Tips to stay safe from cyber fraudsters

In today’s digital era, a special cyber awareness session was conducted to protect senior citizens from cybercriminals. The police educated them about online fraud, suspicious phone calls, messages, malicious links, and the precautions to be taken during digital transactions. Senior citizens were encouraged to adopt safe digital practices and to immediately report any suspicious activity to the police.

Shedding light on legal rights

A legal awareness session was also held to inform senior citizens about their rights and key legal provisions. Police officials assured the attendees that no issue faced by senior citizens would be overlooked and that efforts would be made to ensure timely action on their grievances. Additional DCP Manoj Kumar interacted personally with the senior citizens. They listened attentively to their concerns and suggestions, assuring them that the issues raised would be resolved in a time-bound manner.

‘Khaki’ becomes family for 12 seniors on their birthdays

The most heartwarming and joyful moment of the event occurred when the birthdays of 12 senior citizens were celebrated. Police officers extended their best wishes and honored them by presenting mementos. An atmosphere of warmth and happiness was palpable throughout the occasion; the smiles on the seniors’ faces made the event truly memorable.

Registration of 30 senior citizens

A registration drive was also organized to foster better coordination and ongoing contact with senior citizens. Thirty senior citizens were registered during the event, aiming to strengthen continuous communication and engagement between the police and the elderly community.

Focus on health and well-being

A health awareness session was also conducted during the program. Senior citizens received useful information on maintaining a healthy and active lifestyle. Emphasizing that health and social well-being are as crucial as safety, the police highlighted the need for regular interaction. The event concluded with a poetry recitation by a senior citizen. The poem conveyed a touching message about staying connected with family, fostering social harmony, and respecting the elderly, adding an emotional touch to the entire program.

Police reach the park; listening to seniors through ‘Park Mein Charcha

The Outer District Police did not limit their interaction with senior citizens to office premises. A special ‘Park Mein Charcha’ (Discussion in the Park) event was organized at the District Park in Paschim Vihar East. Vikram Singh (IPS), Deputy Commissioner of Police (Outer District), met with senior citizens alongside the Assistant Commissioner of Police (Paschim Vihar) and the Station House Officer (Paschim Vihar). Detailed discussions were held regarding the safety of senior citizens in parks, security arrangements for women and children, and the development of better, safer public spaces. Senior citizens shared their suggestions and experiences concerning local security arrangements. He also appreciated the work being done by the beat staff and the prompt assistance provided in times of need.

From Respect to Service—A Clear Message from the Police

These two initiatives by the Outer District Police conveyed the message that the safety of senior citizens is not solely the responsibility of the police but is also a matter of social sensitivity. The police’s efforts—such as maintaining regular contact with senior citizens, listening to their concerns, providing information on preventing cybercrime, and discussing ways to make public spaces safer—are steps taken in this very direction.
