Lucknow: The Uttar Pradesh Cabinet, chaired by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, has approved a proposal to construct 845 government residences for Allahabad High Court officials in Prayagraj. The project is estimated to cost ₹543.4075 crore and aims to address the shortage of official accommodation for judicial officers.

533 Type-3 and 312 Type-4 Residences Planned

The residential complex will be developed on 10.37 acres of land in the Devghat Jhalwa area of Prayagraj. Under the approved plan, 533 homes will fall under the Type-3 category, while the remaining 312 will be Type-4 residences.

The project is intended to expand housing facilities for High Court officials, many of whom currently lack access to government accommodation.

Existing Housing Falls Short of Demand

Finance and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Suresh Kumar Khanna said that 2,607 posts for Class-I and Class-II officials have been sanctioned at the Allahabad High Court, of which 1,866 are currently occupied. However, only 128 government flats or residential units are available for these officials.

The significant gap between the number of serving officials and available accommodation prompted the government to plan additional housing. Once completed, the new complex is expected to improve access to government residences for eligible officials.

Project Cost Revised After Financial Review

The proposed development was initially estimated to cost ₹560.0420 crore. During a meeting of the Expenditure Finance Committee held on June 30, 2026, the project’s financial estimates were reviewed, and an amount of ₹543.4075 crore was approved.

Following consultation with the Finance Department, a proposal was prepared to secure administrative and financial approval for the project during the 2026–27 financial year.

₹50 Crore Proposed for Initial Construction Work

The Cabinet was also presented with a proposal seeking the release of ₹50 crore to initiate construction. All 845 residences will be built according to the prescribed standards.

The development is expected to increase the availability of government housing for Allahabad High Court officials and help ease the accommodation shortage in Prayagraj.
