Muzaffarnagar: A couple from Khatauli in Muzaffarnagar has approached Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Suraj Kumar Rai, seeking protection after alleging threats from the woman’s family following their marriage against relatives’ wishes.

The woman reached the SSP’s office at around 2 pm on Tuesday and submitted a written complaint, claiming that she feared for her life and her husband’s safety because her family opposed their relationship.

Couple Says Marriage was Voluntary

In her complaint, the woman stated that her date of birth is January 25, 2007, and that she married Mohammad Shan, son of Mohammad Shah Faisal, a resident of Balkaram locality in Khatauli, on September 21, 2026.

According to her, the couple had been in a relationship for approximately seven years and wanted to build a life together. She maintained that the marriage was her own decision and denied being subjected to pressure, coercion, inducement or any form of manipulation.

Woman Alleges Her Family Opposed the Relationship

The woman alleged that Shan’s family had visited her home several times to discuss a marriage proposal. However, she claimed that her relatives behaved rudely towards them, insulted them and turned them away.

Following these alleged incidents and continued opposition from their families, the couple decided to marry, she said.

Couple Seeks Security and Legal Action

The woman expressed fear of potential harm from her father, mother, brothers and uncles, alleging that they could take action against her and her husband because of the marriage.

Shan also said that his family had approached the woman’s relatives with a marriage proposal but was allegedly humiliated. He stated that the couple subsequently decided to proceed with a court marriage.

The couple has urged the SSP to ensure their safety and take appropriate legal action in response to their complaint. The allegations have been made by the couple; no independent confirmation or official police response was included in the information provided.
