Patiala. The case related to allegations of corruption and illegal wealth in Punjab’s Patiala witnessed major action on Monday morning, when the Enforcement Directorate simultaneously raided several locations linked to former DIG Harcharan Singh Bhullar and his associates. This action has created a stir in the administrative and police departments of entire Punjab. According to the information, this action is being taken under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act. The investigating agency found this case on the basis of a previously registered criminal case, in which it was alleged that illegal bribe was demanded through a middleman for the settlement of a case. Along with this, the investigation also indicated that the accused have more assets than their known sources of income.
Patiala is considered to be the center of this entire action, where raids were conducted at two major places. Apart from this, the team also reached the house of accused associate Krishnanu Sharda in Nabha and intensive investigation is going on. It is being told that many important documents and digital records are likely to be found from this residence located on Nabha-Patiala bypass.
Raids at 11 places in Punjab-Chandigarh
The investigating agency has raided a total of 11 places in the entire state. These include two places in Chandigarh, five in Ludhiana, two in Patiala, one in Nabha and one in Jalandhar. All these locations are said to be linked to the accused, people close to them and suspicious properties. According to sources, during the raid the teams are examining documents, electronic devices and other evidence related to financial transactions. The main objective of the agency is to find out how the illegal money flowed, through what means the wealth was created and who are the people involved in it.
Raids were conducted after preliminary investigation
This comprehensive action has been taken only after some important clues were found in the preliminary investigation. Officials say that the investigation is still going on and there may be more big revelations in the coming time. Besides, the role of other possible accused in this case is also being brought under the ambit of investigation.
