Kolkata: On the occasion of International Yoga Day 2026, Kolkata, the capital of West Bengal, is going to witness a unique and grand event. Preparations have been made for a mass yoga demonstration on more than 500 boats in the Hooghly River, which is being considered as the largest event of its kind in the country. Thousands of people will participate in this event and the organizers hope that this event can also claim a world record. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will also participate in the main Yoga Day program organized in Kolkata on June 21.
What special sight will be seen on Hooghly River?
According to officials associated with the event, more than 500 tourist and passenger boats will be gathered at Babughat and surrounding ghats. Yoga exercises will be conducted together on these boats. There are preparations to include many boats from the Sundarban region in this programme. Organizers are planning to arrange the boats in such a way that shapes like yoga postures are seen in the middle of the river.
How many people are expected to attend?
Around 35 thousand people are expected to participate in the main program of Yoga Day. Along with the main event on Red Road, yoga demonstration program on boats in Hooghly River will also be organized on a large scale. The administration and teams of various departments have been busy preparing for it for the last several days.

This year the national main event of International Yoga Day is being organized in Kolkata. The AYUSH Ministry has already announced that Prime Minister Narendra Modi will lead the Yoga Day celebrations from Red Road.
