New Delhi: The rising prices of LPG in Pakistan have increased the problems of common people. Cylinder prices have increased rapidly in many cities of Pakistan amid interruption in LPG supply from Iran. On the other hand, the prices of domestic LPG cylinders in India remain unchanged at present. On October 26, a 14.2 kg domestic cylinder is available in Delhi for Rs 942.

Why is the gas crisis increasing in Pakistan?

According to the report, disruption in gas supply from Iran is one of the main reasons for the increase in LPG prices in Pakistan. According to the information, two important border posts between Pakistan and Iran are closed since October 17.

Both the countries have given different explanations regarding the reasons for the border closure. Pakistan has cited security concerns and curbing smuggling as the reason, while Iran has cited technical reasons. Due to supply disruption, pressure on gas availability in the market has increased and consumers are having to pay higher prices.

Were cylinders being sold at more than double the government rate?

Pakistan’s Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) has fixed the price of 11.8 kg domestic LPG cylinder at Pakistani Rupees 3,296. Despite this, there are reports of cylinders being sold at much higher prices in some markets. The prices revealed in Lahore and Skardu show this difference. This is putting additional burden on the domestic budget.
