New Delhi. At an event marking the 75th anniversary of the Bharatiya Jana Sangh, the Delhi BJP President reflected on the organization’s historic journey, its nationalist ideology, and the sacrifices and dedication of its millions of workers. He noted that the flame of ideas ignited by Dr. Syama Prasad Mukherjee on October 21, 1951, has today evolved into a nationwide mass movement in the form of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

In his address, he emphasized that the Jana Sangh was not founded to attain power, but with the objective of prioritizing Indian culture, national self-respect, and the national interest above all else. Dr. Mukherjee’s rallying cry—”Two constitutions, two heads of state, and two flags cannot coexist in one nation”—continues to serve as an inspiration for national unity even today.

Humble Beginnings, Grand Resolve

Recalling the early electoral struggles of the Jana Sangh, he highlighted that despite having limited parliamentary representation, the organization never compromised its principles. The sacrifice of Dr. Syama Prasad Mukherjee, along with Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya’s philosophy of ‘Integral Humanism’ (Ekatma Manavvad) and ‘Antyodaya’ (upliftment of the last person), formed the ideological foundation of the organization. He also paid tribute to the struggles of the party workers during the Emergency and their contributions toward safeguarding democracy.

Following the formation of the Janata Party in 1977 and subsequent shifts in the political landscape due to ideological differences, the Bharatiya Janata Party was established on April 6, 1980. The journey, which began with just two Members of Parliament, progressed to secure an absolute majority in 2014, followed by consecutive mandates in 2019 and 2024.

From the Dreams of the Jana Sangh to the Resolve for a ‘Viksit Bharat’ (Developed India)

Linking the abrogation of Article 370, the construction of the Ram Mandir in Ayodhya, and India’s growing global stature to the ideological journey of the Jana Sangh, the Delhi BJP President asserted that the true strength of the organization lies in its dedicated workers. He urged senior members to share the saga of the movement’s struggles and sacrifices with the younger generation. Furthermore, he called for advancing the commitment to service, good governance, and the national interest, with the ultimate goal of building a ‘Viksit Bharat’ (Developed India) by 2047.
