New Delhi: The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has made several important changes to make the re-evaluation and verification process more transparent. The most significant change is that if a student’s complaint is investigated and no errors are found in the evaluation and their marks remain unchanged, they will still have the opportunity to review their answer sheet. This feature has been introduced and is intended to increase student confidence.
What is the new rule?
According to CBSE, students who wish to inspect their answer sheets can visit the relevant regional office. The board will soon release a detailed policy and timetable for this. Until now, students have only received re-evaluation or verification results, but under the new system, they will be able to inspect their answer sheets themselves to ensure that the evaluation was done correctly.
Why did this decision come?
The board receives complaints every year from students claiming that a page is missing from their answer sheets, that an additional answer sheet was not added, or that an answer was not evaluated. CBSE said that this time all complaints were carefully examined and corrections were made where necessary. Based on this experience, the board has decided to implement a new system for answer sheet inspection.
What will be the benefit if the marks increase?
CBSE has clarified in its new guidelines that students whose marks increase after re-evaluation will be refunded the fees paid for the relevant subject. This move brings relief to students who have filed genuine complaints regarding their marks. Such students will also be provided with revised results and new mark sheets.
What will happen if the marks are reduced?
After re-evaluation, marks may increase, decrease, or remain the same. If a student’s marks are reduced, the revised or reduced score will be considered final. The Board has clarified that the purpose of re-evaluation is to ensure accurate evaluation, not simply to increase marks.
When will students get a new marksheet?
Revised marksheets for students whose scores have been changed are being uploaded to DigiLocker in a phased manner. Updated marksheets for most students were released on June 21. The Board has also stated that the revised marksheets available on DigiLocker will be fully valid for all academic and admission purposes.
Where and how to check the results?
CBSE began releasing re-evaluation and verification results on June 21. Results for over 87 per cent of applications in the first phase have been declared. Students can check their revised results through DigiLocker. If the result says “Updated,” the marks have changed, “No Change” means there have been no changes, and “Under Process” means the application is still under process.
