New Delhi: A group of robbers allegedly carried out a carefully planned robbery after monitoring a businessman’s movements and collecting information about his cash transactions. The gang attacked him with a sharp-edged weapon and escaped with ₹2.5 lakh. However, South-East District Police have cracked the case using CCTV footage and technical investigation, arresting five accused and apprehending a minor.

Police have recovered ₹1,72,200 of the stolen amount along with the motorcycle allegedly used in the crime.

South-East District DCP Vineet Kumar said the incident took place around 10:15 pm on October 30, when Sagheer Ali, a resident of Seelampur, was passing through the Iqra Mosque turn in Pocket-11, Jasola. Four assailants allegedly surrounded him, attacked him with a sharp weapon and fled with his bag containing cash.

How Did the Robbers Plan and Execute the Crime?

During the investigation, police discovered that the victim supplied raw materials used in broom manufacturing in Jasola village and visited the area every Friday to collect payments.

Investigators suspect that two individuals, identified as Shahnaz and Azad, shared information about the businessman’s routine and cash collections with their associates. The gang allegedly used this information to conduct surveillance before carrying out the robbery.

The investigation has so far revealed the involvement of eight people in the case. While five adult accused have been arrested and one minor apprehended, two suspects, Sheikh Sameer and Sajid alias Syed, are still absconding.

Police Team Behind the Breakthrough

The arrested accused have been identified as Sahil alias Lalla, Yaseen, Azad, Kaifi and Sahil. A minor allegedly associated with the group has also been apprehended.

The operation was carried out by Sub-Inspector Satish Bhati and Head Constables Satyapal and Dinesh under the leadership of SHO Yudhvir Singh.

The team worked under the supervision of ACP Anil Sharma and the direction of DCP Vineet Kumar.

Police are continuing their investigation to arrest the remaining suspects and recover the balance of the stolen cash.
