Veteran actor Nana Patekar passes away at the age of 75, to get state funeral

New Delhi: Veteran Hindi and Marathi cinema actor Nana Patekar has passed away. According to reports, the 75-year-old actor suffered a massive cardiac arrest at his Goa residence on Thursday morning. He was immediately rushed to the hospital, but doctors were unable to revive him. He was declared dead at around 5:20 am.

According to Dr. Shekhar Salkar, head of the oncology department at Manipal Hospital, Nana Patekar suffered a massive cardiac arrest. He was given continuous CPR for approximately 45 minutes, but his condition did not improve and he could not be revived. According to the doctor, a medico-legal case (MLC) has been filed in the matter. A post-mortem examination will now be conducted to determine the medical cause of Nana Patekar’s death.

Administered CPR for 45 mins

According to reports, Nana Patekar received immediate medical attention after suffering a cardiac arrest. Doctors and medical teams attempted to save his life by administering CPR continuously for approximately 45 minutes. However, despite all efforts, he could not be revived. The news of his passing has sent shockwaves through the film industry and among his fans.

His film journey spanned more than four decades

Nana Patekar’s real name was Vishwanath Patekar. He made his acting debut in the 1978 film Gaman. He subsequently established himself in Hindi and Marathi cinema. His performances in films such as Parinda, Angaar, Tiranga, Krantiveer, Agnisakshi, Ab Tak Chhappan, Apharan, Welcome, and Natsamrat were highly acclaimed.

He was honored with a National Film Award for his powerful performance in Krantiveer. He also received three National Film Awards and several Filmfare Awards. In 2013, the Government of India honored him with the Padma Shri. He has been considered one of the leading actors of Indian cinema. Nana Patekar was not only an actor, but also worked as a writer and director. He made his directorial debut with the film Prahaar: The Final Attack.

Nana was not just an actor

Nana Patekar’s speciality wasn’t just his acting, but his outlook on life also set him apart from other actors. Few know that before entering the acting world, he studied at the Sir J.J. School of Arts. He was also deeply involved in theatre and later tried his hand at film direction. He directed “Prahaar: The Final Attack” in 1991. To play the role of a commando in this film, he underwent rigorous military training with the Indian Army. Following this experience, he was awarded the rank of Honorary Lieutenant Colonel in the Territorial Army.

Another aspect of Nana Patekar’s life was linked to social concerns. After closely observing the problems faced by farmers and rural families in Maharashtra, he took an active role in social work, working for farmer welfare, water conservation, and rural development through the Naam Foundation. In recent years, he has been more prominent for his work with villages and farmers than for his films. He has received numerous honors for his acting, including three National Film Awards and four Filmfare Awards, and in 2013, the Government of India honored him with the Padma Shri.

To get state funeral

Cultural Affairs Minister Ashish Shelar has announced that, in view of actor Nana Patekar’s unparalleled contribution to Marathi theatre as well as Marathi and Hindi cinema, the Maharashtra Government has decided to accord him a funeral with state honours.
