New Delhi: The criminals who fled after carrying out a daylight robbery involving around ₹19.50 lakh in the capital believed they could escape police pursuit by disappearing into Delhi’s streets. However, CCTV cameras, ANPR cameras and technical surveillance began tracking their movements. The trail that started with surveillance near Kucha Ghasi Ram, an unsuccessful attempt near the GPO, and the robbery on the Rani Jhansi Flyover, followed by the accused fleeing from Delhi through Uttar Pradesh to Manali, eventually ended with the arrest of five accused.
During a press conference at Delhi Police Headquarters, DCP Niharika Bhatt said that the North District Police had cracked the robbery case after conducting an interstate search and arrested five accused. Police recovered ₹9.90 lakh in cash from their possession, along with a new iPhone 17 Pro worth around ₹1 lakh, allegedly purchased with the stolen money. Police teams have been sent to Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand to trace other accused involved in the case.
Road Rage First, Then Robbery on Flyover
According to police, on September 30, 2026, Mukesh and Rameshwar were travelling on a scooter from their old office in Lajpat Rai Market towards Karol Bagh, carrying around ₹19.50 lakh in cash.
After crossing Chhatta Rail, two men on motorcycles allegedly tried to stop them near the GPO on the pretext of a road-rage dispute. However, their first attempt failed after a crowd gathered at the spot, forcing them to leave.
But this was reportedly not the end of the plan; rather, it was a move made before the actual robbery.
When the victims continued ahead and reached the Rani Jhansi Flyover near St Stephen’s Hospital, four to five men riding two motorcycles allegedly surrounded their scooter. The accused reportedly assaulted both men and forcibly snatched the bag containing the cash before fleeing.
An FIR numbered 446/26 was registered at Kashmere Gate Police Station under Sections 309(4), 309(6) and 3(5) of the BNS.
CCTV Footage Reveals the Suspects’ Movements
Considering the seriousness of the incident, joint teams from Kashmere Gate Police Station and the Special Staff were formed under the direction of DCP North District Niharika Bhatt, IPS.
The first team was led by Inspector Prashant Yadav, SHO Kashmere Gate, under the guidance of ACP Kotwali Shankar Banerjee. The second team was headed by Inspector Rohit Saraswat, In-charge Special Staff, under the supervision of ACP Operations North Vishesh Dhattarwal.
Police teams began examining CCTV footage from the crime scene and surrounding routes. The investigation revealed that six people riding two motorcycles had allegedly been following the victims. Their movements were tracked through cameras installed from Chhatta Rail to ISBT and Tis Hazari.
The investigation also covered CCTV footage outside the complainant’s shop. Police found that two suspects had allegedly been waiting outside the shop and later followed Mukesh from Kucha Ghasi Ram, where he had gone to collect a payment.
This indicated that the accused had allegedly conducted prior surveillance rather than carrying out the robbery suddenly.
Motorcycle Becomes a Major Lead
During the analysis of CCTV footage and ANPR cameras, police traced one of the motorcycles allegedly used in the robbery. Investigators began establishing its ownership trail.
The probe revealed that the motorcycle had passed from Parvez to Anas, then to Omkar and finally to accused Danish. Technical surveillance also allegedly established Danish’s presence near the crime scene at the time of the incident.
Analysis of his call detail records (CDR) and other technical evidence helped police identify his associates.
Four Arrested While Returning from Manali
During the ongoing investigation, police arrested four accused — Abhishek, Shakir, Suleman alias Shahrukh and Arun — on October 3, 2026, while they were returning to Delhi from Manali.
The investigation revealed that the accused had allegedly travelled to Manali after the robbery and spent part of the stolen money there.
Subhash Kashyap, the owner of the second motorcycle, was also arrested based on the disclosure of the accused.
iPhone Purchased With Stolen Money Recovered
Based on interrogation and technical evidence, police recovered ₹9.90 lakh of the stolen cash from the accused.
In addition, a new iPhone 17 Pro worth around ₹1 lakh, allegedly purchased with the stolen money, was also recovered.
Chandni Chowk Information Allegedly Used to Plan Robbery
During interrogation, police allegedly uncovered details of the entire conspiracy.
According to the investigation, Brij, who works in the Chandni Chowk area, knew that cash was being carried from the complainant’s office. He allegedly teamed up with Abhishek and assigned Aman and Pintu to monitor the victim’s movements.
Aman and Pintu allegedly followed the victim from Kucha Ghasi Ram and informed Arun and Abhishek about his identity near Sis Ganj Gurudwara. Subsequently, all the accused allegedly followed the victim towards the old Lajpat Rai Market.
First Attempt Near GPO Fails, Second Attempt on Flyover Succeeds
According to the police investigation, the accused first attempted to snatch the cash-filled bag near Kashmere Gate but were unable to succeed due to the circumstances at the spot.
They allegedly continued following the victims and later surrounded them on the Rani Jhansi Flyover, where they assaulted them and snatched the bag containing the cash.
After the robbery, the accused allegedly fled towards Sadar Bazaar and Paharganj in an attempt to evade the police. The stolen money was later divided among them.
According to the investigation, all the arrested accused except Subhash allegedly travelled to Manali, while Aman and Pintu headed towards Nainital to evade arrest.
Search for Other Accused Continues
Police teams are now conducting raids in Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand to trace other accused allegedly involved in the conspiracy.
The investigation teams are working not only to arrest the absconding suspects but also to recover the remaining stolen money and establish the precise role of each accused.
The arrested accused have been identified as Abhishek Tiwari (21), Shakir (26), Suleman alias Shahrukh (23), Arun (26), and Subhash Kashyap (26). All of them are reportedly residents of the Loni area of Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh.
The North District Police operation has highlighted how CCTV cameras and technical surveillance can continue tracking suspects even when they flee from Delhi into Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand or as far as Manali.
