Patna: Leader of Opposition in the Bihar Assembly, Tejashwi Yadav, held a press conference on Tuesday and made a scathing attack on the CM Samrat Chaudhary government regarding law and order. He raised the issue of the murder of Dehri Municipal Council Executive Officer (EO) Vimal Kumar and demanded registration of an FIR against Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) MLA Sonu Singh. Tejashwi alleged that instead of conducting a fair investigation in the entire matter, the government and the police are busy protecting the MLA. He said that in the last 100 days, this is the second government official to be murdered in the state, which raises serious questions on law and order.
What did he claim?
Tejashwi Yadav claimed that the family members of the deceased officer have accused MLA Sonu Singh of demanding extortion and involvement in the case. Despite this, the police is not investigating this aspect seriously. He said that in any criminal case, the police should investigate from every possible angle, but this does not seem to be happening in this case.
Should questions also be raised on the investigation?
The RJD leader said that even before the forensic investigation and post-mortem report came, the IG declared the driver a murderer. According to him, this is against the investigation process. He alleged that the driver changed his statement several times during interrogation, yet the police are deciding the entire story on the basis of his one statement. Tejashwi said that this is like drawing hasty conclusions instead of a fair investigation.
Was there more than one attacker claimed?
Tejashwi Yadav said that the nature of the wounds found on the body of the deceased indicates that more than one person may have played a role in the crime. He raised the question that if work pressure on the driver is considered to be the reason for the murder, then this argument cannot be accepted. He said that such arguments weaken the investigation and bring the entire case under doubt.
Was the chief minister also targeted?
During the press conference, Tejashwi also targeted Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary. He alleged that the chief minister had time to attend cultural programmes but did not find time to meet the family of the deceased government official. He said that the government should have stood with the victim’s family, but it did not happen. Along with this, he also raised questions on the working style of the government regarding increasing crime in the state and recent encounter cases.
Did he also speak on the results of the Bankipur by-election?
Tejashwi Yadav accepted the results of the Bankipur Assembly by-election as the people’s verdict but said that the results are a sign of growing public dissatisfaction against the BJP and the Chief Minister. He claimed that after Samrat Choudhary became the Chief Minister, the BJP lost two consecutive elections in a short time. According to him, the government was more busy targeting political opponents instead of solving public problems, the effect of which was also visible in the election results.
