Pratapgarh: Heavy rains triggered the collapse of the roof of a dilapidated house in Uttar Pradesh’s Pratapgarh district early Thursday, killing six members of a family, including two infants, and injuring another, according to police.

When did the accident happen?

All seven family members were asleep in the nearly 100-year-old house when the incident happened in Mahuli ward within the limits of Kotwali police station around 2 am on Thursday.

The police said that six people out of the seven died on the spot. 

What did the Police say?

Deputy SP (City) Ashutosh Mishra said that there was an unexpected collapse of the building in which the entire family got buried beneath the rubble. Police, Fire Department team members, and another rescue team were present at the spot, pulled out the victims from the rubble, and transferred the injured survivor to the hospital.

The victims include Pramod Srivastava (60), his wife Rita (55), son Nitin (25), daughter-in-law Madhuri (23), and two children, Madhav and Babu, also called Adivik, aged one year and 10 months, respectively. Aman (28), a son of Pramod Srivastava, is the only survivor in this case, said the Police.

What did the Uttar Pradesh CM say?

The Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath came to know about the incident at Pratapgarh and instructed the senior officials to go to the spot and speed up the process of providing aid and assistance. He condoled the grieving families and said that he wanted to make sure that the injured receive the proper treatment and other help.
