New Delhi: As the message of cleanliness and service echoed across the country on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti, the 88 Mahila Battalion of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) in the national capital also put Mahatma Gandhi’s message of cleanliness into practice.

On one hand, the personnel took up brooms and conducted a cleanliness drive at the Metro Station-09 premises, while on the other, they planted saplings at the battalion campus and pledged to protect the environment. The campaign reflected the discipline of the uniformed personnel, their spirit of service and their commitment to environmental protection.

The special campaign, organised with the message “Service Through Cleanliness, Security Through Greenery,” was led by 88 Mahila Battalion Commandant Kamal Sisodia. Officers and personnel participated in the cleanliness drive at the Metro Station-09 premises with enthusiasm and discipline. The area was cleaned and people were also made aware of the importance of maintaining cleanliness.

The campaign conveyed the message that the dream of a clean and healthy India cannot be achieved through the efforts of government institutions alone. Every citizen must understand and fulfil their responsibility. Keeping public places clean, disposing of waste at designated places and making cleanliness a part of daily life are among the ways to carry forward Gandhi’s message of cleanliness in its true spirit.

A Tree in Mother’s Name, Greenery for Future Generations

Along with the cleanliness drive, a “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” (A Tree in Mother’s Name) plantation campaign was also organised at the 88 Mahila Battalion campus.

Saplings of various species were planted during the programme. Officers and personnel not only planted the saplings but also pledged to ensure their regular care and protection.

The plantation drive also spread awareness about environmental conservation. The personnel said that a sapling planted today would not only increase greenery in the future but also make an important contribution towards cleaner air and a healthier environment.

Commandant Calls for Continued Efforts

Commandant Kamal Sisodia said that cleanliness and environmental protection should not be limited to a single day but should be treated as an ongoing national responsibility.

She said that just as the CRPF remains committed to protecting the nation, safeguarding a clean and green environment is also a collective responsibility. She urged officers and personnel to make cleanliness a part of their daily routine and motivate others in society to contribute towards cleanliness and environmental conservation.

The Gandhi Jayanti campaign made it clear that serving the nation is not limited to borders and security. Clean roads, well-maintained public spaces and a green environment are also integral to national service.

The message of cleanliness through the broom and greenery through plantation appeared to inspire people to recognise and fulfil their responsibility towards the nation and the environment.
