The lotus flower is truly beautiful to look at, and its fragrance is truly lovely. People of all ages are obsessed with it, but this obsession can sometimes lead to dangerous situations. A similar incident occurred in Jharkhand’s West Singhbhum district, where a fifth-grade student drowned while trying to retrieve a lotus flower from a pond. The incident sent shockwaves through the entire village. The girl was quickly pulled from the pond, but it was too late.
Hasita Das (12), a fifth-grade student living in Sarbija village, under the Kumardungi police station area of West Singhbhum district, went for a stroll around the village on Sunday with two friends. They spotted a lovely lotus flower blooming in the village pond. She was captivated by it and, without thinking twice, dove into the pond. Her foot slipped and she began drowning in no time.
Girl dies after drowning in pond
Seeing Hasita drowning in the pond, her two friends standing outside panicked. The girls then ran to the village and informed Hasita’s family and the villagers about the incident. Upon receiving the information, the villagers pulled Hasita from the pond and immediately rushed her to Sadar Hospital, Chaibasa, where doctors declared her dead after examination.
A similar incident happened before
It should be noted that earlier in April 2025, four girls drowned while bathing in a pond in a village called Haraiya in Garhwa district. It is reported that the girls had gone to the village pond to bathe after attending a family auspicious event. This tragedy occurred during the incident.
