Chandigarh. Amidst the ongoing investigation into the controversial TV interview involving gangster Lawrence Bishnoi, another major revelation has surfaced regarding the alleged collusion between the Punjab Police and the gangster network. The investigation has revealed that while the inquiry into the Lawrence interview episode was still underway, a DSP within the Punjab Police sent a special gift to him at Sabarmati Jail in Ahmedabad on his birthday. This claim has caused a stir within the police department and has once again raised questions as to whether certain police officials were in direct contact with gangsters.
According to sources, the matter involves former Punjab Police DSP Gursher Singh Sandhu—the very same officer who had already been dismissed from service on charges of allegedly facilitating Lawrence Bishnoi’s controversial interview.
What does the interrogation report claim?
Now, an interrogation report claims that in February 2024, he sent a birthday gift for Lawrence. The package reportedly included caps, a box of preserves (murabba), and various other items, which were delivered to Sabarmati Jail through one of Lawrence’s close associates. This revelation emerged from the statement given by Rajvir Singh alias Ravi Rajgarh, a member of the Bishnoi gang. Rajvir, who was arrested in July 2025 in connection with a case under the Arms Act, stated during his interrogation that on February 10, 2024, he received a phone call from Lawrence Bishnoi.
Over the phone, he was instructed to collect certain items from the DSP’s office located in Phase-7, Mohali, and to deliver them to Ahmedabad the following day—February 11—which happened to be Lawrence’s birthday. Subsequently, he visited the office, where the items were handed over to him. The next day, accompanied by another associate named Supinder Singh, he traveled to Ahmedabad by air and delivered the items to Lawrence at Sabarmati Jail. FIR Registered Over Controversial Interview
According to the interrogation report, this sequence of events unfolded at a time when an FIR—filed on the directives of the Punjab and Haryana High Court—had already been registered regarding Lawrence’s controversial interview, and the case was under the purview of a Special Investigation Team (SIT). In this context, the allegation that a police officer sent gifts to the gangster during the ongoing investigation renders the entire matter even more grave. This also raises the pertinent question of whether certain officers within the police department were providing special privileges and protection to gangsters.
It is noteworthy that following the murder of Sidhu Moose Wala, two consecutive television interviews featuring Lawrence Bishnoi surfaced. These interviews created a nationwide sensation. The SIT, constituted pursuant to the High Court’s orders, discovered during its investigation that these interviews had been recorded in September 2022 at the CIA office in Kharar.
Lawrence Was in the Custody of DSP Sandhu
At that time, Lawrence was in the custody of DSP Gursher Singh Sandhu. The investigation also revealed that the CIA office had been set up to function as a makeshift studio. In connection with this case, seven police personnel—including two DSPs—were suspended in October 2024. Subsequently, in early 2025, Gursher Singh Sandhu was dismissed from service. It is reported that he has been absconding ever since. Now, in light of these new revelations, investigative agencies are likely to delve into determining whether this matter was limited merely to the exchange of gifts, or if the links connecting the police and the gangster network ran far deeper.
