Panaji: Amidst the rising prices of LPG, the Goa government has announced to provide major relief to domestic consumers. Chief Minister Pramod Sawant has announced the launch of Goa Ujjwala Yojana 2026. Under this scheme, eligible families will be given financial assistance of Rs 3,000 every year, equal to the cost of three domestic LPG cylinders. This amount will be transferred directly to the bank account of the beneficiaries. According to the government, the objective of the scheme is to reduce the kitchen expenses of families amid rising inflation.

When will Rs 3,000 come to your account?

According to the government, the process of transferring money to the bank accounts of the beneficiaries under the scheme will start from September 9, 2026. That means eligible consumers will get Rs 3,000 annually for the cost of three cylinders. This amount will be transferred directly to the bank account, hence the government will provide financial assistance instead of delivering free cylinders to homes separately.

Where will you get the forms for the application?

The application process is also being started to avail the benefits of the scheme. According to available information, application forms will be made available in the offices of Panchayats and MLAs from September 5. Apart from this, arrangements for application have also been made through some government offices. Beneficiaries will have to submit the required documents along with the application.

What documents will be required?

To apply for the scheme, documents related to bank passbook, Aadhar card, voter ID and LPG connection can be asked for. Information available from the government states that beneficiaries of the existing Greh Aadhaar and Deen Dayal Social Security Scheme can also apply. For these, arrangements have been made to submit the bank passbook along with the application.

Is there any limit on income?

An important thing about this scheme is that there is no income limit for availing the benefits. However, a family will get the benefit of the scheme only on the basis of one domestic gas connection. The government has informed that consumers with PNG connections along with domestic LPG will also be included in the scope of the scheme.

How many families will get the benefit?

The government has made a provision of about Rs 100 crore for the scheme. According to the Chief Minister, more than three lakh connection holders in the state are expected to benefit from this scheme. The government says that by reaching this assistance directly to the consumers, there will be relief in the cost of cooking gas.

Why has this scheme been started?

Chief Minister Pramod Sawant said that the objective of the scheme is to reduce the impact of rising prices and to provide relief to domestic consumers. The decision to provide annual assistance equal to the cost of three LPG cylinders has come at a time when LPG remains an important part of the monthly budget of families. The announcement of the scheme is also being linked to the old election promise of the government.

Beneficiaries will be able to use the amount of Rs 3,000 received under this scheme to purchase LPG cylinders as per their need. After the application starts, eligibility and documents will be verified and after this the amount will be sent to the bank accounts as per the prescribed procedure.
