New Delhi. Mitchell Starc IPL 2026: Cricket Australia has given the green light to Delhi Capitals fast bowler Mitchell Starc to play in the IPL 2026 season. The left-arm pacer is expected to feature in the Delhi Capitals’ match against the Rajasthan Royals, scheduled for May 1st.

When will Mitchell Starc play his first match in IPL 2026?

Indeed, Mitchell Starc’s return will serve as a major boost for the Delhi Capitals. The Delhi team has had a mixed season so far; with three wins and three losses in six matches, they currently sit in fifth place on the points table. In this context, Starc’s return could prove to be a turning point for the Delhi squad.

According to a report by Cricket.com.au, “Starc will build up his fitness and workload on the field in India and is all set to make his debut for the 2026 season in Delhi’s match against the Rajasthan Royals on May 1st.”

Injuries to Elbow and Shoulder

Mitchell Starc had been sidelined since January due to elbow and shoulder injuries, but his return now appears imminent. After delivering a stellar performance in the Ashes series—where he won the ‘Player of the Series’ award—Mitchell did play a few matches for the Sydney Sixers in the Big Bash League; however, regaining full fitness took some time.

It is worth noting that Starc was Delhi’s premier fast bowler last season. He claimed 14 wickets across 11 matches. He is now expected to make his IPL 2026 debut in the Delhi Capitals’ match against the Rajasthan Royals on May 1st.

According to reports, he will first arrive in India to gradually increase his workload before playing any matches. Given his recent injury history, the team management is expected to exercise caution regarding his return. Meanwhile, other Australian players are also making their way back to the IPL; Pat Cummins is set to play for Sunrisers Hyderabad, while Josh Hazlewood has already made his return for Royal Challengers Bangalore. Now, all eyes are on Starc to see whether or not he will take the field against RR on May 1st and provide a boost to Delhi.
