New Delhi: Character verification rules for government jobs in Uttar Pradesh have been tightened. Candidates who have committed violence or serious crimes in the name of “system change” will no longer be eligible for government jobs. However, the government has clarified that political ideology or the mere presence of an FIR will not deter a candidate from applying for a job.
Under the new policy, government employment is completely closed to candidates found involved in murder, robbery, rape, outraging modesty, corruption, terrorist acts, paper leaks, and solver gangs. Individuals who are members of organizations whose aim is to change the system through violence will be ineligible for government employment.
Provisions regarding the time limit of activities
These rules existed previously, but they are now more clearly defined. The rules also provide for age and time limits for activities. According to the information, participation in a “system-changing” activity within the last three years of the date of the investigation after attaining the age of 21 will be considered proof that the individual is still active in such activities.
The new system emphasizes the distinction between acts of violence and mere political ideology. It clarifies that character verification for government jobs will be based on established rules, rather than political views. The mere presence of an FIR or pending investigation will not disqualify a candidate from a government job.
Applicable to all departments, commissions and recruitment boards
The Yogi government has adopted this strict stance in light of recent system changes and protests. Principal Secretary of the Appointments Department, M. Devraj, has issued a directive in this regard. The directive directs the police to submit a verification report within 30 days. Employees already in government service will not be subject to verification; however, information can be obtained from their previous departments.
This rule will apply to all departments, commissions, and recruitment boards of the Uttar Pradesh government. However, normal and peaceful political protests or activities will not be covered by this ban. The government believes this new policy will make youth accountable.
