Trump Brokers Iran Peace Deal

Washington: US President Donald Trump claimed on Sunday that the long-running talks between the US and Iran have now been successful and a peace agreement between the two countries has been finalised. Trump said that under this agreement, the Strait of Hormuz will be reopened and the US Navy blockade will also be lifted immediately.

Posting on his social media platform Truth Social, Trump described this agreement as historic. He said, ‘Congratulations to all parties for this agreement and now global oil supply should be allowed to return to normal.’

What did Trump say in his statement?

Trump wrote, “The deal with the Islamic Republic of Iran is now complete. Congratulations to all. I authorise the opening of the Strait of Hormuz without any tariffs and also order the immediate end of the U.S. naval blockade. The world’s ships can now turn on their engines and oil can begin flowing again.”

After his statement, the discussion regarding this agreement has intensified at the international level.

What information did Pakistan give regarding the agreement?

Before Trump’s statement, Pakistan had also confirmed the agreement between America and Iran. Pakistan was playing the role of mediator in this entire matter.

Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif wrote on social media platform X that after intensive talks between the two countries, a peace agreement has been agreed upon. He said that the US and Iran have agreed to immediately and permanently stop military action on all fronts, including Lebanon.

Is there any dispute regarding the agreement?

However, after Pakistan’s claim, some objections were also raised from Iran’s side. Iranian officials had indicated that some information related to the agreement had been made public prematurely.

For this reason, the full terms and official documents of this agreement have not been made public yet. In such a situation, many experts are waiting for the final form of the agreement.

When will the agreement be formally signed?

According to Pakistan Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif, representatives of America and Iran will formally sign this agreement in Switzerland on June 19. It is believed that after signing all the points of the agreement can be made public.

However, it is not yet clear when the Strait of Hormuz will be fully opened to all international ships.

Why is the Strait of Hormuz so important to the world?

The Strait of Hormuz is one of the world’s most important maritime trade routes. About 20 percent of the global oil and natural gas supply passes through this route.

This is why any kind of tension in this region directly affects the global energy market. After the closure of the strait, a huge jump in oil prices was seen and fuel became expensive in many countries.

How did the conflict between America and Iran escalate?

On February 28, after tensions between the two countries increased, Iran established tight control over the Strait of Hormuz. After this, the talks held with the mediation of Pakistan in April also could not reach any result.

As the situation worsened, America announced a naval blockade of Iranian ports. After this, tension in the region continued to increase, which also affected the global oil market.

Will this agreement affect oil prices?

Experts believe that if the agreement is fully implemented and the movement of ships in the Strait of Hormuz becomes normal, global oil supply will improve. This may reduce the pressure on crude oil prices and will increase the possibility of relief in the prices of petrol, diesel and LPG in many countries.
