Two Accused Arrested After Encounter for Firing 12 Rounds at Man on Balcony

New Delhi: The late-night sound of gunfire sent shockwaves through Delhi’s Bhajanpura area, but the Delhi Police Special Staff team responded swiftly and arrested two accused. According to police, the accused had opened fire at a person standing on the balcony of a house. Later, when the police team surrounded them and signalled them to stop, the accused allegedly opened fire at the officers, firing 12 rounds.

Fortunately, the bullets hit the police personnel’s bulletproof jackets, and both officers escaped unharmed.

During a press conference at Delhi Police Headquarters, Joint CP Eastern Range Milind Mahadev Dumbere said that under the supervision of North East District DCP Rahul Alwal, the police team retaliated by firing 16 rounds, during which both accused sustained bullet injuries to their legs. The injured accused were apprehended and taken to hospital.

Police recovered three semi-automatic pistols, 18 live cartridges and a motorcycle without a number plate from their possession.

Story Begins With Balcony Firing, Ends in Gunfight With Police

The incident took place at around 3:20 am on October 2, 2026, in the Bhajanpura police station area. Police received information about firing in Gali No. 16, Subhash Vihar, North Ghonda.

A police team from Bhajanpura Police Station immediately reached the spot. The complainant told police that at around 2:43 am, he heard some sounds in the street. When he came out onto the balcony, he saw two youths riding a scooter, both allegedly carrying pistols.

The accused allegedly fired several rounds towards him and into the air. The bullets struck the glass railing and exterior wall of the house. Fortunately, no one was injured in the incident.

Considering the seriousness of the matter, forensic evidence was collected from the crime scene, and a case was registered at Bhajanpura Police Station under the relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Arms Act.

CCTV Footage and Informer Network Helped Police Set the Trap

Following the incident, the North East District Police assigned the investigation to the Special Staff. Special teams were formed under the leadership of Inspector Arvind Kumar, In-charge Special Staff.

Under the supervision of the ACP Operations, North East District, the teams examined CCTV footage from the crime scene and surrounding areas. Technical evidence and information from police informers helped investigators identify the accused and locate their possible hideouts.

After conducting raids at several suspected locations, police received credible information about the accused’s movements during the intervening night of October 4 and 5.

The police then laid a cordon on the road leading from Nanak Sar towards Third Pushta Road, Usmanpur.

Accused Open Fire When Police Ask Them to Stop

At around 2:45 am, the police team spotted two suspicious youths riding a motorcycle without a number plate.

The officers identified themselves and signalled the duo to stop for checking. According to police, instead of stopping, both accused allegedly opened fire at the police team.

The accused fired 12 rounds targeting the police personnel. Two bullets struck the bulletproof jackets of members of the police team. The protective gear stopped the bullets and prevented a major incident.

The police team retaliated with 16 rounds in self-defence. During the exchange of fire, both accused sustained bullet injuries to their legs and were apprehended at the spot.

A forensic team later inspected the scene and collected important evidence.

Two Arrested, Three Pistols and 18 Cartridges Recovered

The arrested accused have been identified as Jasim alias Aloo (23), a resident of Welcome, and Kaif alias DJ (23), also a resident of Welcome.

According to police, Jasim had previously been involved in an Arms Act case, while no previous criminal record of Kaif has surfaced so far.

Police recovered three semi-automatic pistols, 18 live cartridges and a motorcycle without a number plate from their possession. The ownership of the motorcycle and its alleged use in criminal activities are being investigated.

Name of Rashid Alias Cablewala Also Emerges

According to police, during interrogation, both accused allegedly admitted their involvement in the firing incident.

The accused reportedly told investigators that they had targeted the complainant and his house and opened fire allegedly on the instructions of Rashid alias Cablewala.

Police are now investigating Rashid’s alleged role and gathering information about other people linked to the network.

Police said the arrests and recovery of the weapons have provided important leads in the investigation into the firing incident. Further investigation is underway.
