Gorakhpur: A shocking incident has come to light in Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh. A married woman has accused her husband, father-in-law, and brother-in-law of coercion and inappropriate physical contact.

The woman states that despite her family spending one crore rupees on the wedding, her in-laws continue to harass her for dowry, and the male members of the household attempt to force sexual relations upon her. The woman alleges that she has been thrown out of the house; accompanied by her family members, she visited the police station and submitted a written complaint demanding legal action.

What Are Details of the Case?

A woman residing in a village within the Gorakhnath police station area has filed a written complaint at the station, demanding action against her in-laws. Through her complaint, the woman stated that she was married to a young man from the Shahpur police station area on March 10, 2026. Her family spent one crore rupees on the wedding; yet, her in-laws continue to demand dowry and subject her to physical abuse. The woman alleges that upon arriving at her marital home after the ‘Vidai’ (farewell ceremony), on the very night of the ‘Suhagraat’ (nuptial night), her husband verbally abused her family members, claiming that the wedding had brought them disgrace. He complained that they received no respect and no dowry. When she objected, her husband physically assaulted her and forcibly established sexual relations. He warned her that this would happen every day from now on, threatening to kill her if she resisted.

What Are the Allegations?

The woman states that the very next day, her mother-in-law and father-in-law demanded a car. When she conveyed this to her husband, he told her to ensure that whatever they were demanding was fulfilled. The woman further alleges that four days after the wedding, her husband went out on some work. That afternoon, while she was sleeping in her room, her brother-in-law entered. After exchanging a few trivial words, he began to touch her inappropriately. When she raised an alarm, her brother-in-law fled the room. He then told his mother (the woman’s mother-in-law) that he had merely gone to take food to his sister-in-law, and he did not know why she was making such a commotion.

The woman added that this incident had occurred some time ago. A few days later, when all other family members had gone out on various errands, only she and her father-in-law remained present in the house. My father-in-law entered the room while I was asleep. He attempted to touch my hand; suddenly, I woke up and sat up in shock. At this, my father-in-law said, “It’s alright; just have sexual relations with me. All the family members will respect you, and no one will say a word against you.” Just then, my husband returned home unexpectedly, and my father-in-law quickly exited the room. I recounted the entire incident to my husband, but he remained silent.

The woman stated that ten days after her wedding, her mother-in-law informed her that the date for her *Vidai* (farewell ceremony) had been fixed. She was told to make preparations but instructed that, upon her return to her in-laws’ home, she must bring a car with her. A few days later, when she returned to her in-laws’ house, she was asked, “Where is the car we asked for?” When she refused to comply, a heated argument ensued, and she was thrown out of the house. She returned to her parents’ home and, feeling helpless and exhausted, has now filed a formal complaint at the police station.

In this regard, the Station House Officer (SHO) of the Shahpur Police Station stated that, based on the written complaint submitted by the woman, a case has been registered against her mother-in-law, father-in-law, husband, and brother-in-law, and an investigation into the matter is currently underway.
